The Iveagh Trust, has joined the Housing Alliance, the collaboration of six of Ireland’s largest Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs). The Iveagh Trust was founded by Edward Cecil Guinness in 1890 and is an Approved Housing Body operating on a not-for-profit basis.
The announcement coincides with the 134th anniversary of the founding of The Iveagh Trust, on the 2nd of April 1890. Since its establishment the Trust has gone onto manage 1,700 homes in nine locations around Dublin, offering a range of housing options including general needs housing for families, supported housing for older people and accommodation for men experiencing homelessness at the Iveagh Hostel. The Trust currently has 81 homes under construction.
The announcement will bring the total number of homes managed by the Housing Alliance’s members to over 44,000, with plans for a further 5,196 to be built in 2024. The 5,380 homes delivered by the Housing Alliance in 2023 represent approximately 17% of the total number of homes completed in Ireland last year, according to Central Statistics Office data.
Aidan Culhane, Chief Executive of The Iveagh Trust, said; “We’ve always been at the forefront of affordable housing provision in Ireland. Joining the Housing Alliance is an obvious step in contributing to the overall effort to increase the supply of social and affordable housing”.
John Hannigan, Chair of the Housing Alliance, said; “We are delighted to have The Iveagh Trust as the newest member of the Housing Alliance. They have been providing housing on a not-for-profit basis for 134 years, so their experience and knowledge of the sector will be an invaluable asset to the Housing Alliance. Approved Housing Bodies play a crucial role in tackling the housing crisis and it is hugely important that we work with all stakeholders and Government to increase housing delivery.”
